Tips on Washing Baby’s Cloth Diapers
May 18th, 2010 by Christine
When you are holding your newborn in his baby infant blankets and staring into his eyes, nothing else in the world seems more important a treasure. Little kids are special.
When it comes to infant care, there is no margin for error and even more so, there are no compromises to be made. While most parents would prefer to use disposable diapers on their little ones, it is not always safe or practical to do so especially when money is tight, which can be the case since the economy has yet to recover fully from the recent crisis.
The only alternative you have is to use cloth diapers which can be a little inconvenient but on the upside, it is safer for the baby’s skin and is more environment friendly.
Here are some tips on washing baby’s cloth diaper:
Pre Soaking is Very Important- Since you will be dealing with bodily fluids, it is imperative that you first soak all the diapers in order to remove the urine as well as the smell that comes with it. Soak all the diapers in lukewarm water for at least 45 minutes then proceed to washing proper.
Use Only Mild Detergent- This is a very important point that you cannot overlook in the slightest. Keep in mind that the baby’s skin is very sensitive and it is prone to allergies and using harsh detergents and even fabric conditioners might trigger unwanted reactions which you would want to avoid at all costs.
Hang Diapers to Dry Instead of Using the Dryer- In order to avoid any unwanted smells. It is advisable to air them out and let them dry using natural sunlight. If outdoor drying is not practical, consider using dryer balls in the dryer to help the items separate and be fluffy at the finish.
Do Not Iron Cloth Diapers too Often- It is not necessary to iron diapers at all but if you do, make sure the heat is minimal to prevent wear and tear especially if it is made of cotton.
