What’s In a Conventional Baby Bottle and are They Safe?
Jan 13th, 2010 by Luis
Baby bottles are the most common way for mothers to feed their child. It is done so much that it almost has become a standard among mothers, especially the younger ones. Many mothers today in order to not compromise on convenience prefer to feed their child from a bottle rather than to nurse them from their breast.
The best nutrition that a baby can get as soon as it is born into the world is his or her mother’s breast milk. The ingredients, nutrients, and vitamins in the mother’s milk are essential for the baby’s growth and for good health.
Some mothers who do breast feed their child sometimes place their breast milk into a bottle first. But most women today use baby formula mixed with water in a bottle to feed their young.
This is much more convenient for the mother as opposed to breastfeeding but is it safe and healthy for the child? This brings us to our point concerning baby bottles.
Most baby bottles today are made of polycarbonate plastic. This plastic is very dangerous especially when heated because it releases a chemical known as bisphemol A. This chemical is known to be a hormone-disrupting chemical and it’s also found in the lining of soda cans, food cans as well as cans used for instant baby formula.
Another chemical that is found in conventional baby bottles is phthalates. These chemicals are also often found in scented shampoos and soaps. These two chemicals can contribute to breast cancer and the early onset of puberty in children, among other health problems. They are very harmful to children and most baby bottles today are still made with these two harmful chemicals.
If you are going to use a baby bottle to feed your child we recommend you use a bottle made of glass. If you must use a plastic bottle then make sure that it is made from PES plastic. You will know if a bottle is PES plastic or not because PES plastic gives off a natural golden color. You can find these types of baby bottles by going to organicallyhatched.com.
Also if you are going to use formula to feed your child make sure that it is organic baby formula packaged in safe packaging that is free from phthalates and bisphemol.
As mentioned earlier there is nothing much healthier and safer for your child than for them to feed from your own breast, but if you are going to use baby bottles make sure they are safe for your child to suck from in every aspect possible. This is one more step you can take for your baby to truly become an organic baby.
